Fixes itself

After sleep or plugging in a screen, your wallpaper comes back. No black screen.

More details: the real numbers

Measured on one PC: Windows 11, RTX 5080, 3 screens (3440×1440, 1080×2560 tall, 1920×1080), 30 frames a second, 20-second samples. These are Featherwall’s own numbers; Windows' own screen drawing is not included. Your PC will be a bit different.

Safety first

Two wallpaper types are switched off for now

On 30 October 2026 our test PC’s graphics card kept resetting while it ran shader wallpapers on 3 screens. So shader and GIF wallpapers are off in this version. Videos, photos and web wallpapers are on and tested.

More details

Featherwall now has a safety brake. If the graphics driver resets, it waits 15 seconds before trying again. If it resets a second time within 5 minutes, Featherwall stops drawing until you pick a wallpaper again, so it can never keep a bad loop going.

The resets on our PC pointed at the graphics driver, so keeping your driver up to date is a good idea for any app. Shader and GIF wallpapers come back once we’ve tested them on more PCs.

Questions people ask

Is it really free?

Yes. The free app never runs out, has no watermark and no ads. Pro is an optional one-time $4.99 for extra motions and effects.

Will it slow down my games?

No. When a game or any full-screen app is open, Featherwall pauses every screen and uses 0% of your PC until you’re back.

Does it work with more than one screen?

Yes, for free. Give each screen its own look, or stretch one look across all of them. Which screen is which? flashes a big number on each one.

Can I use my own photos and videos?

Yes. Drag them onto the window. Line it up lets you move and zoom, and Smart frame finds the best part for you. It all happens on your PC; nothing is uploaded.

How do I get my old wallpaper back?

Right-click the Featherwall icon by the clock and pick Exit. Your normal Windows wallpaper comes right back. There’s also a Back to my normal wallpaper button in the app.

What about my laptop battery?

Featherwall can pause when you unplug, when the PC is locked and when the screen turns off. Turn on Pause on battery in Settings.

Why did Windows warn me?

New apps that aren’t signed yet get a “Windows protected your PC” box. Click More info, then Run anyway. The Microsoft Store version won’t show it.

Does it work on Mac or phones?

Not yet. Featherwall is made for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit).
